This article explains the method used in recognizing British Sterling Silver Hallmarks.http://www.annabelchaffer.com

The British hallmarking standard on silver is very high, just from looking at the hallmark you can decipher what date the item was made, who the maker was and in which town it was hallmarked. This enables us to date pieces going right back to the 16th century.

  1. Manufacturers mark (example)
  2. Fineness (parts/thousand)
  3. Assay Office Mark (London)
  4. Date Mark (1999)
  5. Pictorial Symbol

British Sterling Silver Hallmarks are also your guarantee of the purity of silver (higher than 92.5% purity). This is not the case in other countries where the silver content can be lower or in some cases nonexistent.

Since the end of the 12th Century there has been strict control of items made from silver in England. Each piece of silver produced in the UK is required by law to be sent to an Assay Office for hallmarking. If you buy a piece of British hallmarked silver you are guaranteed a quality item, which will hold its value and become an investment for the future.

See this example of a sterling silver perfume atomizer made by an English silversmith.

The History of Hallmarks

Hallmarking represents one of the earliest forms of consumer protection. A hallmark is a series of marks applied to gold, silver and platinum articles. It indicates that the article has been independently tested at an Assay Office and guarantees that it conforms to the legal standards of precious metal content, known as the fineness.

In 1238 Henry III ordered that all goldsmiths and silversmiths must have their wares assayed (from the French “assai”, to test) and conform to certain standards.

The Act of Edward I, 1300, decreed that all gold and silver work should be, ‘Of the sterling allay or better, at the pleasure of him to whom the work belongeth’.

By 1363 every gold or silver smith had to stamp each piece of work with their personal mark to show that they had met the set standards.

In 1478 year marks were introduced to further protect consumers.

The Customs Act of 1842 stated that all silver imports to the UK were to be assayed and marked in a UK assay office, backdated to 1800.

Since the end of the 12th Century there has been strict control of items made from silver in England. This is still regulated and controlled by the Goldsmiths Hall in London to this very day. Each piece of silver produced in the UK is required by law to be sent to an Assay Office for assaying. If the required legal standards are met the silversmith’s marks are then stamped onto the article.

The Leopard’s Head is the mark of the London Assay Office and has been in continuous use since 1300, when the Wardens of the Company were given responsibility for marking gold and silver wares, which passed assay, with the King’s mark of the Leopard’s Head.

Still based in the Goldsmiths’ Hall, and using the most up-to-date technology, the London Assay Office hallmarks several million articles every year. It is also the Secretariat of the Association of European Assay Offices. Hallmarking is now carried out under the statutory jurisdiction of the Hallmarking Act 1973. The Act also established the British Hallmarking Council. The Council has various powers and duties regarding hallmarking, which include ensuring adequate assaying and hallmarking facilities in the UK. Every day millions of people worldwide search for answers to certain questions, search for various information that will help them make their lives better. It is the same need as the need for food. It means that if there is such a need, a person will satisfy it once it becomes possible. If you can answer some questions or know how to improve people’s lives, why not take money for it? Actually, what is money? It is a form of gratitude from people for something useful they acquired. Once you do something useful for people - get gratitude in return.

What will people pay money for? For getting all the necessary information and answers to their questions here and now. They will not have to spend time on searching - everything they need will be offered in one information file. That is why when you create an information product, you should keep in mind that since a person uses a product, he or she must get all answers to all questions the solution for which the product offers.
It will be better if the product is focused on answering some big question. For example, ?how to lose extra weight??, ?how to feel confident in any situation??, ?how to achieve your goals??, ?how to become a leader??, ?how to find or create your own business??, ?how to start your business on the Internet??, ?how to write an eBook?? etc. Of course, you should write about what you understand, what you are successful in and what you are interested in. So, when you choose a subject you are going to write about, take your own abilities and interests as a basis. Otherwise the reader will feel that the author is not competent and the product will most probably be a failure.

How to turn information into a commercial product? Of course, it is better to make all information in the form of an electronic eBook. In this case, an eBook is nothing, but a metaphor. It can be either a set of text pages with pictures or an interactive course with questionnaires and tests. For the potential buyer not to be afraid of cheating and to have no doubts about what he is paying money for, it is better to let him read a couple of chapters from the eBook for free, but ask him to pay for the rest of the eBook. Free chapters should help the reader in his question at once because it is by these chapters that the buyer will determine how useful the eBook is and consequently whether it is worth buying. As a result, it will be only one file available to be downloaded for free from the website. And you will only have to attract visitors who will download the eBook and pay for the registration key and access to the entire contents of the eBook. And remember about statistics: a satisfied client will on average recommend the product to seven other people, while an unsatisfied client will recommend that they not use it.

So, we get the following system:
- a visitor visits a website.
- the website describes questions/problems and explains that the solution is in the eBook that can be downloaded for evaluation free of charge
- the visitor downloads the eBook and looks through its free part
- the reader finds the eBook useful and makes a purchase

So, we need the following for the system to function:
- the website should attract the visitor and help him download the eBook
- the free part of the eBook should start solving the problem and involve the reader into the solution process to continue which he will have to pay money

It is recommended to create commercial eBooks with the program eBook Maestro PRO. It has a lot of advantages. First, it creates eBooks right out of HTML pages. Second, the final eBook is a standalone application that does not require any additional programs. Third, the program can set limitations for unregistered users. Forth, it supports the system of online activation that prevents registration keys from being distributed. Fifth, it protects information from being stolen and modified. Sixth, it allows you to customize any part of the eBook interface the way you want it. And much more.

Good luck to you and lots of sales!

Notes:
Free Trial version of EBook Maestro PRO can be downloaded from: http://www.ebookmaestro.com

You may freely publish this article ?as is? on any other resources provided that no modifications are made in it.

What’s in your Easter Basket? Marshmallow Peeps, Cadbury Eggs, chocolate bunnies and Jelly Beans? These are some of the more popular and traditional Easter goodies that are often found in Easter Baskets these days. However, with the world turning its attention to health matters and improved eating habits, this Easter tradition of sweets and treats may be on the verge of change.
This is especially true for parents attempting to instill healthy eating practices in their children; thus leaving many parents in a dilemma…what shall we put in their Easter Baskets? Fortunately, there are several options available that will still provoke smiles and giggles of happiness from your little ones.
The simple and quick solution is to substitute chocolate and sugar filled goodies with more healthy snacks. Any grocery story has a variety of foods to choose from including peanuts, granola bars, fruit snacks, fresh fruit, graham crackers, peanut butter filled crackers, fig cookies, and the list goes on.
In addition to healthy snacks, there are other items that you could incorporate into the Easter Basket to make it fun. Look for some Easter-themed activity books, coloring books and story books for kids. They will surely enjoy having something fun and entertaining to do during the holiday.
Don’t forget the traditional stuffed bunny! Or try something different by finding a stuffed duckling or baby chick. There are several Easter or Spring theme stuffed animals to choose from out in retail world.
You may also find fun Easter theme toys, such as small wind up animals and stickers. Another fun idea, especially if you get an activity book, are Easter theme pencils and erasers. You may even find crayons or markers in bright Spring colors.
If you still have room in that Easter Basket, cute clothing is always a winner. Whether it is Easter theme or just designed with Spring colors, buying clothing is fun and serves a wonderful purpose. Clothing that is rolled tightly and tied off with a colorful ribbon can fit into a small space and makes a nice presentation.
There are many ways to celebrate the holiday and fill the traditional Easter Basket without contributing to a sugar overdose. Have an open mind and let the ideas take form. Do some shopping at the local grocery store and see what you can come up with. Easter is busy time for retailers and many have had their items out since Valentine’s Day. Shop around, be creative, and let’s try to keep our kids healthy without missing out on the fun!

So you’ve got a puppy that likes to bite?

The good news is that biting is a perfectly natural thing for a puppy to do, your puppy is not being vicious or aggressive. Most young puppies go through this biting or nipping phase as they are teething.

How To Stop A Puppy From Biting

It is cute when very young puppies start to mouth or bite your little finger, but as they get a bit older it can develop into a real problem. That’s why it is important to let your puppy know that biting is unacceptable behavior right from the start. It is much easier to prevent puppy biting problems than to re-train puppies who already nip.

Before I go into specific methods you can use to stop your puppy from biting it is important to keep these basic rules in mind:

- Never slap or hit your puppy in the face. This does not work! your puppy will just think you are playing rough or may become afraid of you. You could end up with much bigger problems than a bit of puppy biting.

- The general rule to stop problem nipping is to encourage acceptable behavior and always discourage unacceptable behavior.

- Never play tug of war or wrestling type games with a puppy who bites. It will only encourage him more.

- If you don’t show your puppy that biting will not be tolerated, he will not know he is doing anything wrong. Don’t expect your puppy to just know this!

- Whichever method you choose to correct your puppies biting problem the golden rule is be consistent! You and every other person who comes into contact with your puppy have to lay down the law every time your puppy has a nip.

Stop Your Puppy From Biting - Proven Techniques

- If you catch the biting problem early on it may be very simple to fix. Just try to redirect the biting from your fingers to a toy or chew bone. This method is usually all you’ll need if you have a very young puppy. As soon as your puppy starts to bite just say “No!” and replace your fingers with a chew toy.

- My next favorite method is to make your dog think he is hurting you each time he has a nip. This method really replicates the way dogs sort this biting out amongst themselves. When they are biting and nipping each other it only stops when one puppy lets out a yelp. So we can use this natural way dogs learn by letting out an Ouch! or an Arrr! when your puppy starts to bite. Also as soon as you let out the Ouch! pull away and stop playing with your dog for a while. Your puppy will soon get the message that when he starts to bite, his playmate (you) goes away.

- In bad biting cases as soon as your puppy latches onto your finger say No! and quickly put your thumb inside his mouth under his tonque and your other finger under his chin. Hold it there for about 10 seconds, (not too tightly) this will feel uncomfortable to your pup, and he won’t be able to bite you.

- Again if your puppy has a severe biting problem you can try this technique. Put on a pair of gloves and apply a foul tasting substance to it (something your dog doesn’t like). Your dog will soon learn that if he bites you, it will won’t be tasty! This method produces a negative association every time your dog decides to bite you. Some dogs are smart enough to realise that when you take your foul tasting gloves off it is fine to sink their fangs into you again!

- If you have an older puppy (4-5 months) that bites you can use this sure fire technique. Put a choke or pinch collar on your puppy and each time he bites you give the lead a short sharp tug. This again will be an unpleasant association to your dog every time he bites you. It won’t take him long to stop.

A couple of other methods that have been recommended to me, but I have never tried myself:

- Spray your puppy with water every time he bites.

- Fill up an empty tin can with rocks or coins. Each time your puppy starts biting say “No!” and give the can a shake. He’ll hate the noise.

Like I mentioned earlier, the most important piece of advice regardless of which method you choose is to be consistent.

Introduction:

Derby holds a great appeal for those visitors in search of unspoilt tradition and character. In the shadow of the ornate Cathedral tower lies a great multi-cultural city bursting with a wealth of entertainment venues, attractions, parks and shops. Derby is perfect for those in search of a short break, whatever their needs.

Places of interest:

Derby is a busy industrial city, home of the famous Royal Crown Derby Porcelain. Derby sits on the west bank of the River Derwent, close to its meeting with the River Trent. Located in the beautiful rolling countryside of Derbyshire, it is an ideal base for touring the area, exploring the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District National Park.

Derby Cathedral - The Medieval Tower is the second highest in England at 212 feet; its bells are rung regularly and are the oldest ring of ten bells in the world. James Gibbs designed the superb early 18th century classical gold and white nave. Features include the wrought iron screen by Robert Bakewell, Bess of Hardwick’s elaborate memorial and St. Katherine’s Chapel.

Derby Museum and Art Gallery - The Museum, which has a gallery dedicated to the craft of ceramics, also features on Natural History, Egyptian Mummies and Military history. In the town’s history section you will see the Bonny Prince Charlie Room, with wood panelling taken from Exeter House where the Prince stayed in 1745. The Art Gallery has a collection on the work of the local artist Joseph Wright.

Pickford’s House - This is one of Derby’s fine Georgian Town Houses, built in 1770 by local designer Joseph Pickford. In the beautifully decorated rooms, you will find scenes of Georgian domestic life and historic costume displays.

Derby Heritage Centre - This quaint timber-framed building is home to a wealth of historical local information, including photographic displays and books.

Derby Industrial Museum - Situated in the first factory building in England, an 18th century Silk Mill. Here you can learn about the history of railways, coal mines and Rolls-Royce aero engines. There is also a variety of changing exhibitions.

Things to do:

Derby not only offers all the activities associated with a large city but those associated with living in rural England. You can shop till you drop, or enjoy the local countryside and historic monuments. Tourist routes are available to enable you to make the most of any walk or cycle tour you wish to take.

Shop in a traditional department store established in 1864, or one of the well known High Street names in the modern indoor shopping centre, explore the Victorian Market hall, and the colourful crafters market.

Eat in one of the speciality restaurants, coffee or tea shops Derby has to offer. Evening entertainment in the city can vary from a visit to one of the cinemas or theatres, to live music in one of the many wine bars and clubs.

Take the Kedleston Lanes cycle route that starts and finishes in the Riverside Gardens by the Council House in Derby. The route takes you through the lanes north-west of Derby and visits the villages of Kirk Langley, Weston Underwood and Quarndon. Unfortunately this route is not suitable for young families or inexperienced riders.

Discover the beauty and heritage of Derbyshire’s River Derwent by following the Derwent Valley Heritage Way. The total distance is 55 miles but it can be taken as a long distance walk or as a series of shorter walks. The Derwent Valley Heritage Way has been way-marked using small yellow and purple disks.

Allestree Park dates from the end of the 18th Century when the present Hall was built. The park is preserved as a Local Nature Reserve because of its wide range of wildlife habitats. A Nature Trail follows an easy, reasonably flat route around the lower part of the Park and the lake shore. The trail is just over 1.5 miles long and should take about an hour and a half to complete.

Why it’s better to have residual income and not solely depend on paycheck income? Residual income by definition is income earned by an individual that are generally coming from his assets at hand. It allows a person not to worry anymore spending 8 hours a day in the office working as his personal assets are now earning money for him.

The current practice for people in earning a living is by getting a job and work either on an hour or annual basis. They have salaries or paychecks that they receive usually on a monthly basis and this allows them to buy the things they want, travel to places they want to travel or simply buy anything that their paychecks allows them to buy but the happy story ends where the money has been spent already and people have to continuously report back for work and continue on with their current jobs again and again. Their paychecks do arrive again and again but so does the effort for them to continue working for that hard-earned money.

People can aspire for higher salaries by getting promoted in their current companies or they can opt to aspire for higher paying salaries with other companies. They can get a higher education, maybe an MBA degree and be assigned to higher management positions like a supervisor or a manager in a company. Their salaries become higher and their lifestyles can become higher too. Still, at the end of the day, they still have to report for work the next day, get more worries and pressure from work as they still have to continuously work their way on a daily basis in order for them continuously enjoy the paychecks they are receiving that will allow them enjoy and sustain the lifestyle that they want to enjoy.

This is technically the rat race and it’s a cycle in most people’s lives that goes on and on. The cycle of coming to work doesn’t end. This is because people will always have obligations to pay the bills, to put the food on the table and to simply enjoy a good weekend doesn’t end too.

So how will it be possible for anybody to get out of the rat race of working 8 hours a day? How will it be possible to simply just have the money that can sustain the lifestyle one would like to have and go on with life with the expectations of still being able to receive continuous income in the bank?

The answer basically lies with being able to create wealth for oneself not solely on the basis of becoming an employee and receive a paycheck continuously but simply by being able to have income coming in the bank without necessarily working for it on an hourly basis.

This is what we call residual income. Residual income, also what we call passive income generates income for a person thru his assets. These assets can be in a form of real-estate properties that returns rental income. Shares of stock in a blue chip company that consistently returns back dividends is also a way to earn residual income. This is also true for mutual fund shares that consistently return earnings to the fund owners from the funds’ investments.

The process of switching from a lifestyle funded by earned income from a job to a lifestyle funded by residual income generated from a person’s established assets will be the challenge for anybody who’s currently tied up in the rat race cycle. Being able to save enough money or capitalize on a person’s talents and skills in order to bring in income consistently without him returning back to work for good is the process towards financial independence.

People who have capitalized on their talents and skills and have settled down towards financial independence are those who have maximized their residual income potential. Songwriters for example may only need to write just a few songs that will make it big on the MTV or Billboard charts that will consistently sell out record sales for a lifetime will have residual income by earning royalties for every song they wrote that is played in the radio or sold in record stores.

Entrepreneurs or successful businessmen that started their business and capitalized on their business ideas that have taken off towards success can expect consistent profits from their businesses. They’ll just need to hire effective managers and people that will continue to run their businesses for them and they can just expect their businesses to grow and receive profits from their business operations.

Why residual income is better than all sources of income? Its because it allows anybody who has initially capitalized on his efforts to plant his seeds on business ideas, artistic talents, or investment strategies regardless of his family background, education, age, or even career background. Residual income allows financial stability and freedom without the need to be back at the office the next working day again and simply enjoy the free time to devote it on their love ones or on the things that they’ve always wanted to do in life.

I think it’s time to set the record straight on an important misconception about biorhythms. Just over thirty years of experience with biorhythms has taught me that using biorhythms alone to predict compatibility is impossible.

In my experience, biorhythms don’t measure compatibility. They measure energy patterns and energy dynamics in relationships. The more compatible a couple’s biorhythms, the more dynamic their relationship is likely to be… either good or bad.

Let’s use a mind problem to illustrate this point. Every woman who was born on the same day as Stalin would have the same biorhythms as him. And therefore all the biorhythm programs would score their compatibility as 100%. Without going into a lot of detail, I think reasonable people would agree that not all of the women in the world born on 12/21/1879 would be able to “live happily ever after” in a romantic relationship with the guy. And by the same token, not all of the men in the world who were born on the same day as Mother Theresa would be able to find marital bliss with her (had she wanted to marry)… not even all of the good guys and certainly very few of the really bad ones.

What biorhythmic compatibility does accurately measure is the energetic potential of the relationship. It’s like biorhythms can predict the dynamic volume range of the music two people make in their relationship. But biorhythmic compatibility can not and does not predict the choice of songs the couple will choose to sing or the quality of their music.

So in addition to consulting biorhythms, any valid determination of relationship compatibility must also include personality compatibility, compatibility of major life goals, compatible and/or similar interests and favorite activities, etc.

In fact, it is these “other” factors that determine compatibility… biorhythms only predict the energetic amplitude at which the relationship plays itself out. Returning to Stalin as an example, let’s assume that Stalin was a “bad” guy. Let’s also use our imagination to hypothesize that 100 “good” women somehow got tricked into marrying him. Because he is bad and all of them are good, we know that all the relationships would fail… but at different rates. Those women who had 0% biorhythmic compatibility with this man might take two weeks to kill him in his sleep. Those with 100% biorhythmic compatibility would finish him off in two days (smile).

More compatible biorhythms, in effect, turn up the volume on relationships… they push the accelerator further toward the floor… they get the relationship to where it is already destined to go faster and with more intensity.

There is another important factor in determining the potential for success of a relationship… simple energetic preference. There are many people in the world who want something completely different from the rest of us in a relationship. Some people just don’t want fireworks and magic in their relationships. Some people want a relationship that feels like they married their brother, sister or best friend. Some people want safety, predictability and even a little boredom in their relationships.

Personally, I can’t fathom that. I’m still looking for the 98% biorhythmic ‘compatible’ relationship. But I have to wish for even more than that match. I have to hope that the 98% person I find will be an intensity freak like me. Otherwise the relationship will blow up in our faces because it is too intense for them. It could be the best relationship of either of our lives, but if the energy and intensity exceed either partner’s energetic capacity, they will begin to feel they are out of control and run like the wind away from the relationship… no matter how good. Actually, some relationships are too good for some people. And as crazy as that sounds some or even many people are more comfortable with boredom or even conflict than they are with the heights of happiness and passion.

So what are biorhythms best used for? …to help you learn about your own energy patterns and preferences, and what you are looking for energetically in a partner. You won’t know if you want a relationship with a 100% biorhythm-compatible partner until you actually meet someone close to that and see how you actually like that level of energy in the relationship. Once you know at what ‘volume’ you like your relationships played, you can then begin looking for that intensity level in a person whose personality, interests and life goals are also compatible with your own. And may you live happily ever after!

The maturation of multi-channel commerce

More and more retailers are realizing the benefits of multi-channel retailing. Leveraging brand equity in multiple touchpoints has been proven to drive loyalty and interaction among consumers. With trends clearly showing the Internet as the core component to pre-purchase research, brick and mortar brands can ill-afford to take a wait and see approach as it relates to core multi-channel offerings.

Three core enhancements must be executed flawlessly to have true multi-channel integration:

* In-store associate kiosks

Leveraging the eCommerce store within an in-store environment solves fundamental out of stock situations, provides a new channel for up/cross selling, and maximizes profitability per square foot.

* In-store pickup

Incorporating buy online and pickup in-store functionality eliminates the barrier of shipping in the online sales equation. With shipping costs being the number one driver to why shoppers choose to not purchase online - this initiative help reduce key customer based purchase inhibitors while drive incremental sales in-store traffic. The solution also provides added convenience and satisfaction to the consumer, as they no longer have to wait to receive their merchandise.

* In-store returns

Returning products that were bought online, in-store, can bring many back-end technology bottlenecks to the radar screen. Forward thinking retailers must accurately map their order processing and inventory data to empower service associates with the data they need to reconcile and close the transaction efficiently at the POS.

Slow processing and a poor return experience will virtually erode a consumer relationship that was costly to start and maintain.

Getting your organization on board with change

Convincing company executives that these initiatives deliver ROI may be challenging, but that challenge pales in comparison to what is faced in your store network. The perspective change within the rank and file employees in your organization will prove to be your most daunting task as it relates to these initiatives.

Within all three of the solutions above, the web transaction integrates with the physical store. The store is the final piece of the puzzle in all three scenarios, making it the most crucial element to deliver a proper transaction. If your employees do not execute properly on this level, the result will be an un-utilized solution, or even worse, a customer perspective that your employees are incompetent.

The key is getting your employees aligned with multi-channel change. This happens by driving two key operational strategies in conjunction with a multi-channel technology solution.

* Training

Store managers must take the lead in understanding multi-channel solutions, while leading efforts to replicate this knowledge among customer-facing employees.

Prior to solution launch, be sure to communicate the internal and external value among the manager base, create a solution handbook for employee questions, and bring managers in to the home office for a ? day workshop to become experts right before the solution goes live.

* Incentives

Employees must feel that the web-generated order still has some benefit to them. To drive accountability, some type of carrot must be given to ensure that employees have reason to treat the web-driven transaction seriously.

Because in-store employees receive bonuses for comp sales, create some type of awards program for efficiency as it relates to in-store multi-channel solutions. Or provide a piece of all web sales, distributed on a regional basis.

Understand the dynamics of your employees - how they work and what motivates them. By closing the gaps in training and incentives, multi-channel success becomes much closer to being reality.

Do you want to be even more successful? Learn to love learning and growth. The more effort you put into improving your skills, the bigger the payoff you will get. Realize that things will be hard at first, but the rewards will be worth it.

Many of us have to be reminded that almost everything worthwhile in our lives is hard at first. Learning to walk was hard at first, but gradually we learned and now it is effortless. The same holds true for our more advanced skills such as, sports, music, art, etc. We forget these past struggles to learn and take them for granted now.

When most people begin to try something for the first time, it usually doesn?t turn out particularly well. It doesn?t mean we are bad, or stupid, or anything like that, it just means that most things of any complexity take awhile to learn.

Given this, the surprising thing is how most people react when they begin to learn a new skill and it does not go well. Most people at that point feel such things as surprise, anger, frustration, and so on. We forget that the expression ?beginners luck? means that doing something well at first is a fluke. We forget it isn?t supposed to be easy; it is almost against the laws of nature for something to be good at first.

So what is a more positive way to handle the difficulties we will encounter when we are learning something new? We should take the attitude that we are supposed to fail at first, that is the way the system works. We should look for a way to find fascination with the process, and build enjoyment of the ups and downs into the process. We need to recognize the difficulties we will face and build them into the time and effort we plan on expending on the project. This is one place in your life where a healthy dose of pessimism will pay off. Just planning for difficulty will take much of the negative emotions we feel in these situations away.

Lets look at another situation where we encounter difficulty at first. Almost anything involving change is very hard for us to incorporate into our lives at first. One of my favorite expressions regarding change is ?the only kind of change we like, is the change in our pocket.? Making the decision to change is easy, it is just a decision. Staying changed is hard. We want to fall back to our old ways; we are discouraged, uncomfortable and so on. One again we are learning something new and it helps to build this into our plan for change.

In addition to learning to enjoy the process as above, we can add another element to help us through learning something new or the change process. We can keep reviewing the goal we are seeking, the payoff, etc. and continually tell ourselves that the pain is temporary, but the payoff is permanent. We need to take the pain and frustration and deal with it minute by minute, telling ourselves to hang on, hang on, we can make it. Life is a series of minutes we can make it through.

Many people use visualization techniques to help them learn a new skill or deal with change. They ?daydream? or use guided imagery to see themselves going through the process of learning or change and attaining the goal. A person on a diet can see himself f becoming thinner and thinner, easing the pain and giving them the sense they can do it. The same with a new skill such as golf. They see themselves hitting the ball, in just the right way, and they see the golf ball going right where they want it. A word of caution regarding using visualization to learn a new skill. The technique is very, very powerful and you will tend to perform exactly like you visualized it, so if you visualize the wrong technique, chances are you will actually perform the wrong technique. So be very sure of the proper technique before you used visualization to help you master it.

One last point. I have stressed the need to recognize that new things will be hard to learn at first. While this ?negative? view is helpful, it must be balanced with a positive outlook for the whole project. Plan and expect problems at first, but also plan and expect that you will eventually master the situation. Planning for a positive outcome will help give you the willpower to see the situation through and enable things that are needed to move you ahead to appear when they are needed. Remember if we expect good things, we tend to get good things.
