Don’t despise the scraps of time or anything else in your life. Instead, use them to help achieve your goals and transform the way you live.

Five minutes every hour can help you make strides in learning a skill. If the five minutes escalate into ten minutes an hour, the results can be astonishing.

Don’t wait until you have an extra hour or so available. That hour may never come and you may never learn that skill. Even a few minutes a day with a swipe file can help you improve your copywriting.

Don?t despise the scraps of exercise in your day. Get up and walk around during the advertisements in two hours of TV and you will have walked for nearly half an hour.

Alternatively, put an exercise machine in a room with a TV and work out while you watch the program.

Do situps every time the ads come on and you could do fifty sit ups in two hours of TV. If you don’t watch TV or films, just do five sit ups every time you stop reading or writing or whatever you are doing.

Get up every hour or so and do something physical. Try walking around the house and taking a look at those rooms you seldom spend time in. Walk up and down your stairs.

Walking up and down the stairs can stress the heart a little and make it stronger. It is great value for time. I have just walked up the stairs to switch on the central heating and will need to return to switch it off. In any event, you don’t need an excuse to walk up and down your own stairs. You have paid for those stairs after all!

If your central heating or the equivalent is on automatic put it on manual and get yourself moving around the house. If you live in an apartment block or bungalow just getting up and walking to the controls is better than nothing.

You could always put away the remote controls for the DVD player or TV and force yourself to get up and use the push buttons on the actual set. These scraps of exercise all add up.

I have some foam nunchakus in my room and I practise with them for about five minutes whenever I can. I don’t use wooden ones because I might well break something in the room or injure myself when I miss a catch.

One of my taekwondo teachers knocked himself unconscious with his nunchakus when training on his own in his room. There is no point in doing any kind of training or activity which injures you.

So use foam nunchakus, preferably with a chain link, and you will be injury free and can develop a useful skill which is fun and which involves exercise. I had the main electric lights in my room moved away from the middle of the room so I would have space to swing the nunchaku without breaking the lights.

If you don’t know how to work the nunchaku, buy a DVD and learn from it. We are all incredibly fortunate these days to have DVD’s available which will teach us almost anything.

If you don’t want to work out with the nunchaku, just do something like squats or knee raises or pushups when you take a break. These scraps of movement will eventually produce results. Practise your kicks if you study the martial arts. If you don’t, get a DVD and learn a few kicks. Just practise them very slowly. This will build muscle and skill.

Humans were made for exercise as they chased down their mobile food. It is important to recapture part of that life style at least.

Use time scraps to deal with clutter. Put one or two things away in those spare scraps of time and your room can become a model of neatness.

Don’t despise the scraps of paper that tend to appear everywhere. Deal with them one at a time and you may save yourself hassle. I’ve just had a snooty letter from a credit card company because I have exceeded my limit on their card.

If I had shown more respect for the scraps of paper on my desk, I would have found out that I had exceeded the limit sooner. If you plan to keep some paper, put it in a file or home of some kind with a relevant name on it! Important paper deserves preserving and labelling.

So then; start using the scraps of time and motion in your life and they can provide you with powerful skills and a healthy body. Use every chance to get up and move about doing something. There is usually a bed or chair available if you overtire yourself!

Take care of those scraps of paper and they will take care of you. You will stay on top of your finances, relationships and many other things.

Apply the scrap or bit by bit principle to everything. I just walked to my back door and noticed a pigeon walking round searching for scraps of food. It looked quite plump and healthy. Scraps are keeping it alive and well and mobile enough to evade any predatory cat or fox.

We have all been told we should eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day but how many of us do that? However, we could all eat a slice of apple or two or three grapes or half a tomato every hour or so. As always these scraps will mount up and we may even get a taste for healthy food.

Obviously doing the above should not be a substitute for taking control of our main blocks of time each day and making a plan or schedule of the activities we need to complete or, at least, begin in order to achieve our goals.

An example of a daily plan, which I have mentioned elsewhere, is to spend an hour on learning a skill; an hour on dealing with an overwhelming task like sorting out your paper work and an hour on achieving one of your goals. The acronym SOG can help. S for skill; O for overwhelming task and G for goal.

Priorities are clearly crucial to goal achievement and doing the important things early in the day ensures they get done. I have just finished this article after starting work early this morning and have then gone on to write a second article by the early evening.

Writing articles like this is a key priority for me as I need the advice in them as much as anyone else. They may also bring visitors to my website.

Control your main blocks of time but do not despise the scraps. They are worth their weight in gold. Make full use of any scraps of exercise or motion. You can keep fit without moving outside your house!

Deal carefully with every scrap of paper that comes your way and, if you don’t like healthy food, at least try to eat some scraps of fruit and veg every day.

Good luck with the above ideas and congratulations if you are already following the principles described. If you are sceptical, give some of the activities suggested a try and see what happens.

Jesus said to Peter, “Upon this rock, I will build my church.” Who or what is the rock and the church built upon it? (See Matthew 16:13-19)

For centuries, theologians have debated the meaning of the “rock” and the church built upon it. But for Cayleb, age 6, the interpretation is obvious: “Jesus was telling Peter to take some rocks and build a church.”

Cayleb is on the right track without even knowing it. Living rocks are the building material of Jesus’ church. Peter himself calls Christians “living stones,” who serve as building material for a spiritual house and priesthood. All the living stones are fitted into place around a living cornerstone, Jesus Christ. (I Peter 2:4-8)

Today, many people think of a church as a beautiful building with stained-glass windows where people meet on Sunday. But if you were a Christian during the first 250 years after Christ walked the earth, you would never have seen a church building. They didn’t exist.

The first Christians met secretly in homes, fields and even caves to avoid arrests by Roman emperors. After Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, buildings called churches were erected.

Christians thrived in the first and second century under persecution when they met secretly in small, informal home settings. In many cases, the intimacy of close fellowship was lost when Christians assembled in larger buildings that became known as churches.

“I think that Jesus was telling Peter that he (Peter) was the rock because his name means ‘rock,’” says Hillary, 12.

The rock upon which Jesus would build his church could refer to Peter, since Jesus changed Peter’s name to “petros” meaning “rock.” This would make Peter the foundation of the church. But is that what Jesus meant? Scholars and theologians have battled over this point for ages. It’s a bigger fight than all the “Rocky” movies combined.

Actually, Jesus used one form of the word “rock” (petra) for the rock on which he would build his church, and another (petros) for Peter. According to George Abbott-Smith’s Greek lexicon, “petra” means “a mass of … rock” as distinct from “petros,” “a detached stone or boulder.”

Immediately after Peter declared Jesus to be the Messiah, he rebuked Jesus for saying he would be killed. Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan!”

Even after Jesus’ resurrection, the apostle Paul admonished Peter in front of the Galatian Christians for compromising the truth of the gospel. If Peter is the rock on which the church is built, the church rests upon an earthquake fault line.

Before Jesus said, “Upon this rock, I will build my church,” he asked his disciples what people were saying about him. Then, Jesus asked them who they thought he was. Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

This is the essence of the gospel and the bedrock of the church (see I Corinthians 3:11). In other words, Jesus reinterprets Peter’s declaration: “You are Peter (a piece of the rock), and on this rock (the fact that I am the Messiah, the Son of the living God), I will build my church.”

As Ashley, 12, says: “I think Jesus meant that he was the rock and that we, his house, should build our lives upon him.”

Think about this: Peter’s confession is the foundation of the church — Jesus is the Christ (Messiah).

Truth to memorize: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

Ask this question: Is Jesus Christ your foundation?

A structured settlement is a financial tool used in the settlement of personal injury or windfall cases. In a structured settlement, the parties negotiate the payment of damages or winnings to the affected parties be made over a period of years, rather than in one lump sum. These periodic payments are typically funded by an annuity policy.Once the case is settled and the parties have agreed to a structured settlement, an annuity policy is purchased to provide periodic payments. There is a Federal law that permits the sale of structured settlement payments.

In the case of lottery winnings that you have chosen to accept over an annuity payment terms can look like the best solution to your windfall, but after making this decision you could find yourself wishing you had taken the lump sum.

Predicting the future needs that arise are as uncertain as finding yourself on the winning side of the lottery. Not to be discouraged by how to deal with your financial future, there are alternatives after you’ve made your decision to accept payments over a long period of time.

Structured settlements is a solution that often resolves immediate needs of releasing funds due you but at a much faster pace. Granted there are penalties for opting for a cash settlement. At the point you have decided to capture your net payment into a single reduced total amount, you have entered into another decision that is worth considering carefully.

Structured settlements are like a stock option or a savings bond, in that the sooner you opt to cash out the lesser the amount you receive. Not only can you act too quickly but this is a negotiated price. Don’t act too hasty here, it will finalize your payments forever.

There are a number of structured settlement companies that will gladly seek your business. After all look at what they stand to gain. Would you, if you had the capital, buy one million dollars for a reduced rate of $500,000, and all you had to do was accept the one million dollars paid over let’s say 15 years? Of course you would. How hard is it to do if buying money with a 50 percent return was assured?

The key to making the best decision on who to do business with, is to consider the fact, you hold all the negotiating clout in this situation. You have the absolute best assets in the world, cash, and who is willing to pay you the most, immediately, for it.

In choosing the right structured settlement, investigate each company by asking to refer some of their clients for your opportunity to discuss if they felt they got the best deal and by what process did they choose a particular structured settlement firm. This will make you feel much more at ease, in making your most important decisions about liquidating your assets.

Jim has an online goldmine of information that he shares from several facets of business and commerce. If you would like to learn more about structured settlements visit his site: http://wealthsmith.com/structuredsettlement.htm or his homepage: http://wealthsmith.com

Being a parent is not an easy task. There are no rulebooks or manuals to teach you how to be a good parent or how to bring up a perfectly adjusted, intelligent little person. This is probably because each and every one of us is an individual and, because of this, our actions and reactions to different things are different.

Often, the way that parents learn about how to be a parent themselves is to remember how their parents handled situations or did things. Some of the things that your parents did were probably beneficial to you, while other things may not have been. But remember that you are in the same boat as your parents were when you were a child. Nothing has changed – parenting is still just as hard now as it was when you were a child.

Since there are no hard and fast rules on how to take care of your child, you should make sure that you follow the hard and fast rules of being a parent. This means taking care of yourself by making sure you get enough rest and have healthy eating habits. Another thing to remember is that you need some time away from your child every now and again to pursue some of your own interests, even if it is only for half an hour per day to take a quiet stroll in the fresh air.

One of the best tools that you can have is the knowledge of your child?s developmental stages. Be aware of how your child is developing physically, emotionally and mentally. By knowing what is considered to be normal, you will not have unrealistic expectations for your child.

Never be afraid to ask for help or support. Don?t worry yourself sick over something that could easily be assessed or discussed with a nurse at a health care clinic or a doctor. Find out what services are available in your area and, if possible, take the time to go to parenting classes if they are available in your area. Not only will you get help and support from the staff, but you may also find some great friends while attending the classes.

Parenting is a life long commitment and the hardest task that you will ever undertake. But it is also the most wonderful feeling in the world when your child looks up at you and tells you that he or she loves you. Children are the most innocent little people in the world. For just a while in your life, you will feel what it is like to be loved unconditionally by another person. That is truly the most precious gift that you could ever receive in life, so enjoy those few short years with your child while you still have them.

When I set out to find the best websites for kids I wanted to make sure that the sites had real educational value and were easy to use. I did not want any sites included that asked for any information, not even an email address. Websites that had too much advertising were avoided. And, finally, I wanted the sites to be free or very low cost.

I always advise parents to look at any sites before sharing them with your kids so that you know exactly what is on each site.

So with that in mind, here are my choices:

Starfall at http://www.starfall.com

Starfall is a website that helps children learn to read. It has everything from learning your ABCs to reading books. The graphics are colorful, attractive and simple to click on. The audio is clear and easy to understand. Best of all it is a jump and go site. No login and nothing to click through to get started. They also offer free printable worksheets to practice writing. And it is all FREE. Starfall can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. The site is listed for Kindergarten through second grade, but preschool kids enjoy learning their letters and struggling readers may enjoy it also.

PBS Kids at http://pbskids.org/

PBS Kids is a wonderful site that has lots of familiar characters that children love: Clifford the Big Red Dog, Arthur, Maya and Miguel, and Sesame Street, just to name a few. The pictures are bright and attractive and the audio is great. For older children, ZOOM is a favorite. They have games to play and free printable worksheets. PBS Kids is a jump and go website as well. No login and nothing to click through to get started.

One of the great things about PBS Kids is that some of the areas of the site are companions to the television shows seen on PBS. Between the Lions, Reading Rainbow, Maya and Miguel are all represented in the website. Once again, this site is FREE. PBS Kids is recommended for children preschool through elementary.

If this were not enough, they have great parenting pages!

The Literacy Center at http://www.literacycenter.net

This website is much smaller than the others; however, I like it because it is simple to navigate for preschoolers and kindergarteners. The have cute online games in English/Spanish/German/French for children learning colors, letters, numbers and shapes. This is a great place for ESL (English as a Second Language) to begin saying the words in English. Some children may enjoy learning the Spanish, German or French words for fun. The audio is very clear. This is also a jump and go site. And it is FREE.

Guys Read at http://www.guysread.com

Jon Scieczka, a famous children’s author, created the Guys Read website in order to promote literacy for boys. It is an established fact that boys don’t always take to reading willingly. I have seen this in my own classroom and there have been studies done on this very subject. So how can we encourage boys to read more? One of the ways is to provide boys with books and other reading materials that they enjoy. The Guys Read website was created to give guys (little guys and big guys) a place where they can find books that are interesting. There is also a forum called Readerville where they can talk with other guys about the books they are reading.

Scholastic, Inc. at http://www.scholastic.com/kids

You may be familiar with the name Scholastic. They are a publishing company that has been serving the educational community for years. They have Book fairs at schools, Book clubs and offer online lessons for a fee. But, lucky for us there are many free activities your child will enjoy. Scholastic is the home of the Magic School Bus and the famous Miss Frizzle! You will also find Clifford the Big Red Dog and other favorites. The younger children will need some help to navigate the website at first. There are plenty of activities to do and they have parent pages as well.

Clifford’s Interactive Storybooks http://teacher.scholastic.com/clifford1/index.htm

This area of the Scholastic website is located within the teacher pages. Children can listen to the stories and practice reading. It’s lots of fun!

National Zoo http://nationalzoo.si.edu/default.cfm

The National Zoo is part of the Smithsonian Institution. The website is excellent. If you have a child that likes animals, you must visit this site. The site is jump and go, meaning you can start exploring immediately. Younger children will need help searching. The live animal cams are very popular! The photo gallery has excellent pictures as well. So much information is available you really need some time to explore and even then you will always find something new to discover on subsequent visits.

The San Diego Zoo also has a great website at http://www.sandiegozoo.org/

Enchanted Learning at http://www.enchantedlearning.com

This website is HUGE and covers everything from the Alphabet to Zoology. The information on this website (over 20,000 pages) is available to everyone for FREE. You can just view or view and printout the pages. This website does not offer interactive games; however, if I had to choose just one website to have available to my students it would be this one. I said students, rather than children for a reason. The information on this site is so extensive that even college students could use it for basic research. (I have.) I am not kidding. You have got to see this for yourself.

As I said, all of the information is free, but they do offer a membership. Members can print out all of the pages with no ads showing.

I cannot believe that so many people have never heard of Enchanted Learning. I would expect that a membership to this site would cost at least $50/year if not more, but no – and it’s not $40 or $30 either. For just $20/year your entire family can benefit from this BEST Educational Website Ever! (and remember – if you don’t want to become a member, you can still enjoy all of the benefits for free)

BookPALS Story Online at http://www.storylineonline.net/

BookPALS is presented by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation. Celebrities read children’s books aloud. The site also features activities for kids. The audio is excellent and it has lots of great pictures. It is a jump and go site, but a speedy computer is needed, otherwise it can take a long time to load and the buffer won’t take it without pauses.

abcteach at http://www.abcteach.com/

abcteach is the greatest! This is the favorite website of teachers. There are so many things you can print and use from coloring pages to reading comprehension practice. They also have a fabulous math section. The website has now introduced an area for middle school students. In order to be fully functional the membership fee is $35/year; however, over 5000 pages are available for free. In addition to the great reading activities at abcteach you can find flashcards, puzzles, mazes, clip art, report covers and so much more. This is a great place to find excellent printables. Parents will have to choose and print the activities for younger children.

Go surf for fun!

While it is certainly not the most enjoyable part of the painting process, careful preparation can make your home painting project easier and less stressful. In fact, this is quite possibly the most important part of the job.

Improper or incomplete preparation is a recipe for disaster. Fail to prepare, and your project is doomed before it has even begun.

The steps I’ve listed below are general, all-purpose prep rules. They are standard steps for most jobs. Before and after preparation, reassess the space to see if something does not look fully prepared.

Things You’ll Need: * Roll of plastic sheeting * Painter’s Tape * Primer (Water-based Primer is usually sufficient) * Spackling Compound * Putty Knife

Clear the Room

Clearing the room of all possible obstacles is the first step toward a quality paint job. A cluttered room will increase the stress, work, and difficulty of your painting project. Begin by clearing the walls any removable pieces. This includes outlet covers, light switch covers, curtain rods, pictures, etc… Label any outlet covers and light switches with masking tape so they can find their proper home again. Keep the mounting hardware together (a plastic sandwich bag works great), labeled, and in a safe place.

Remove everything that’s possible from the room’s interior as well. Furniture, fabrics, home d?cor. Furniture that cannot be removed for some reason should be moved into the center of the room and covered with plastic sheeting. You should not use cloth to cover the floor or any furniture, as paint will soak into the fabric and stain whatever is underneath

Clean the Room

Clean the room thoroughly. Vacuum carpets. Sweep and mop floors. Wipe down baseboards and woodwork with a damp cloth. Clean those pesky cobwebs from the corners.

Once this stage of cleanup is completed, cover the floor completely with plastic sheeting. Secure the sheeting to the edges of the floor or baseboard with painter’s tape.

Wash the Walls

Walls (even those that look clean) accumulate dust, oily buildup, soot (from candles, cigarettes, etc…). Washing the walls to be painted is a critical step in the preparation process. Paint will not adhere well to dirty, oily walls.

There are many cleaning products available on the market for this type of application, but I’ve found that plain old dish soap and warm water works just about as well as any of them. A sponge-headed mop is an excellent tool for actual cleaning. Its long handle should allow you to reach 8 or 9 foot tall walls with relative ease.

Once the walls have gotten a thorough washing, give them a final once-over with plain old water to wash any soapy residue from the surface.

Patch Holes

A smooth surface is critical to the finished look of your paint project. Fill any nail holes, small dents, and nicks in the drywall with spackling compound.

Press the spackle firmly into the hole with a putty knife and smooth as flat as possible. Allow several hours to dry (per spackling manufacturer’s instructions). Sand the repairs flush with the wall. Apply a second coat of spackling if necessary. Sand flush.

Spackling is meant only for minor drywall repairs, such as nail holes, hairline cracks, and small nicks. I urge you to contact a professional contractor/drywaller for any larger repairs, unless you are confident in your ability to handle it yourself. Drywall finishing is something of an art form (in my book at least) and I have encountered far too many botched do-it-yourself jobs to prescribe the “fix-it-yourself” method.

Priming

Once you have patched your walls, priming is the next step in preparing them for paint. Primer bonds to your current surface and gives you a perfect base to paint on. Primer may be unnecessary if you are using Latex Paint to paint over a previous low-gloss latex paint.

Even if your surfaces are already painted with a low-gloss, latex paint and do not require priming, you should apply primer to any areas that are patched with spackling. These areas will appear glossy even after painting if they are not spot-primed.

Taping

Taping is another necessary evil of preparing for paint. Taping off baseboards, woodwork, light switches, outlets, ceilings, adjoining walls, etc, is the best way to protect those surfaces you do not intend to paint. Use only “painter’s tape”. It is blue and available at nearly any paint, home improvement, or hardware store. Any other tape may damage your surfaces when you attempt to remove it. Painter’s Tape is low tack and can usually be removed without incident within two weeks of application.

Taping can be very painstaking work. Apply it so the edge is flush against the surface to be painted, then press down along that border with a putty knife to seal the adhesive. This will help keep paint from seeping behind your tape.

Once you have finished taping off all areas, you are ready to begin painting. Take a deep breath. The hardest part is already done.

Use an eCommerce Shopping cart as a catalog, rather than to close a sale.

Taking a Holiday Business with a catalog as an enticer as an example.

I advise that for maximum exposure you should have a number of products with specific names – like “Fiji self catering villa”, and “Majorca apartment”. The trick is to call your products a name like “what people type to search for them”. So the first catches people that want “Fiji”, those that want “self catering” and those looking for a “villa”, and a “villa in Fiji”. Not being specific is the best way to fail online.

So to get maximum exposure from a search engine point of view:

Rather than being general once, you should be specific about lots of things.

However an “all inclusive half board self catering holiday in Fiji Majorca” is unlikely to appeal to customers although you may get lots of clicks. These days people like quality results from the web and this is not necessarily related to the quality of the good or service(google’s whole reason for success is based on serving up very relevant content).

You generally have 3 seconds to capture your customer’s interest.

So you might want to create a product which is “Fiji Villa” and put some text about Fiji on the page, and link up to the Fiji Tourist Board using the product URL, and then do the same for another destination.

The more relevant information you can give away, the more likely the customer is to stay there; and if they don’t stay, how will you close the sale?

It takes effort, but the results are generally worth it if the products are what people want.

NFL Owners are looking forward to play outside the United States; they will consider this possibility next month and if approved, two official games a year will be held starting with contests in Canada, Mexico, Britain and Germany.

This is not new, as the league has played several exhibition games overseas for the past two decades and more recently, the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks announced that they would play a preseason game in Beijing.

But not only unofficial games are played outside, as San Francisco faced Arizona in Mexico city last year being this one the only regular-season match held on a foreigner land, and which attracted more than 100,000 Mexicans to the Azteca Stadium.

With regular televised games, fans all over the world are hoping to live this experience and Mark Waller; senior vice president of the NFL said that they are now ready for the real thing.

“The preseason games and American Bowl games have worked well to introduce fans to the game, once fans have gotten to know it and understand it, they are very aware that the regular season, playoffs and Super Bowl are the real thing.” Waller said.

Waller has received a good response from the owners of the teams, and if everything continues to go well, the plan will be put in March for the 2007 season and there would be a rotation so that each team loses only one home game every 16 years.

One of the reasons overseas games were not so popular for coaches was travel time, but a trip to England or Japan isn’t different than a coast-to-coast trip.

October seems to be the best time to play these overseas games, when bye weeks are always in effect, so league officials say that matches in Europe could be timed in a way that teams returning from them might go into a bye week.

It would be interesting to see how this plan can develop the enthusiasm of people around the globe for American football, as this one, along with baseball, are sports that are followed mostly for the North American audience.

Lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses can do worse than ruin your holiday they can ruin your life, so you need to read this article to be up to speed on lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses before you travel.

Lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses can be protected against, by taking one or two simple precautions, before, and during your holidays. Many holidaymakers become obsessed with an irrational fear of being bitten by a malaria mosquito, or being felled by a tummy bug, and so fail to enjoy their holiday.

Whilst Lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses can kill, there are sensible precautions that can be taken after identifying and assessing the real risk factors.

There are three main sources of Lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses

INSECT BORNE TROPICAL DISEASES
LACK OF SANITATION CAUSES TROPICAL DISEASES
HUMAN CONTACT AND TROPICAL DISEASES

In each case concerning Lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses the most important fact we need to remember is:

Protection.

There is an old proverb which says that if something can be measured it can be done, and if it can be done it can be improved!!

The same holds good for tropical diseases.

If lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses are known about, you can protect yourself from it, if you can protect yourself from it, and you don’t, you’ll probably catch it!!

The most important precautions against lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses are:

1. Thorough personal hygiene prevents tropical diseases from striking

2. Appropriate clothing and footwear prevents malaria type tropical diseases

3. Vaccinations and a holiday medical kit are also important in the prevention of tropical diseases.

4. Sensible behaviour, there is no protection from lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses without that!!

Let us deal in turn with the most well known potentially lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses

1. Malaria

Malaria is one of the tropical diseases that is widespread in tropical regions.

Infection occurs after a bite from an infected anopheles mosquito.

Protection: preventative medication (malaria prophylaxis).

The type of prophylaxis prescribed will depend upon your ultimate travel destination and any stopovers.

Further precautions are the wearing of clothing that covers the arms and legs and the use of insect repellents and mosquito nets.

Malaria Prevention

Malaria is caught from the bite of an infected mosquito.

It is a disease of the blood.

The mosquitoes do not buzz, and often have a painless bite.

The disease results in fever and flu like symptoms.

Bite prevention is the first line of protection.

If you were born in a malaria zone but have lived away, remember that natural immunity to tropical diseases such as malaria is lost quickly and you should consider antimalarials before returning.

Anti-malarial tablets are safe for most people – see your Doctor or Pharmacist at least 2 weeks before you go away to discuss your needs.

Tablets should be started one week before you reach a malarial zone to make sure they are suitable for you.

Most cases of malaria are contracted because people stop tablets on return home – they should also be taken while you are away and continued for 4 weeks after leaving a malarial zone.

Take tablets at the same time each day or week to make it a habit, take them after food and with plenty of water.

If you are planning to get pregnant – inform your Doctor before you go away.

Any flu like symptoms should be mentioned to your Doctor for up to a year after returning from a malarial zone.

NO MALARIA MEDICATION WILL BE 100% EFFECTIVE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO PREVENT BEING BITTEN!

It is imperative that children receive all the vaccinations recommended, to avoid any chance of them succumbing to tropical diseases.

However, it is not advisable to take infants and small children on holiday to malaria areas.

2. Hepatitis A

This is Infectious jaundice, and it is important that you understand the causes:

Increased risk in areas with poor sanitation, which means most of the third world, makes this one of the commonest tropical diseases.

Infection occurs through contact with contaminated faeces, water (including ice cubes) and food.

Protection:

Vaccination

Preliminary vaccinations with an interval of 2-4 weeks provide immunity for approx.1 year; a booster after 6-12 months then provides immunity for several years.

Administration of immunoglobulin shortly before travel.

3. Yellow fever:

This disease is prevalent in some regions of Africa and South America, and vaccination is required for entry to these countries. Don’t forget to check if you are making stopovers en route: many countries require visitors to be vaccinated if they have previously visited a country where yellow fever is prevalent.

4. Polio

Polio occurs worldwide, though incidence is greater in countries with a generally low standard of health where a comprehensive vaccination programme has not been implemented.

Infection occurs through contact with a carrier of the virus, primarily through contact with faeces, though sometimes via contaminated food and drinking water.

Protection:

Vaccination or booster (in oral form or by injection).

5. Diphtheria

Occurs worldwide, primarily during the colder months in temperate zones.

Recent increased incidence in the CIS countries.

Spread by airborne infection.

Protection:

Vaccination or booster, usually in combination with tetanus vaccine.

6. Meningococcal meningitis:

This disease can, and does, occur anywhere in the world. Recent epidemics in numerous African regions and lately also in Nepal and India.

Protection

Vaccination: particularly recommended for long-stay visitors to epidemic areas.

7. Typhoid, Paratyphoid:

Common infections in many hot countries, makes it one of the higher risk tropical diseases.

Infection via contaminated food and water.

Protection

Careful hygiene and vaccination by mouth or injection.

8. Cholera

Infection from low standards of hygiene where cholera is endemic.

Protection

Vaccination against cholera is not obligatory for international travel.

The vaccine does not protect against infection, though it can prevent outbreak of the disease in individual cases.

A cholera vaccination can be advisable for individuals travelling to areas with low standards of hygiene where cholera is endemic.

If in doubt, consult your doctor.

9. Tetanus

“Lockjaw”.

Widespread internationally.

Infection occurs via contaminated wounds.

Protection:

Vaccination (booster every 10 years), usually in combination with diphtheria.

We have now dealt with the first two parts of the causes of lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses, and as a reminder they are listed below

INSECT BORNE TROPICAL DISEASES

LACK OF SANITATION CAUSES MANY TROPICAL DISEASES

I have deliberately left to the last, the details on the prevention of lethal communicable tropical diseases and viruses from HUMAN CONTACT.

Strictly speaking this can’t be described as one of the tropical diseases, but AIDS is endemic in many tropical regions, and so we will include it in our list of tropical diseases.

These are of course in the main, the sexually transmitted diseases, which can have quite horrendous consequences for the careless holidaymaker, not only now but for the rest of their lives
For some, relaxing and having fun on holiday involves casual sexual encounters.

Surveys show that many people have sex with previously unknown foreign partners while abroad resulting in sexually transmitted disease on return home.

Abstinence or sex with a trustworthy, lifelong partner is THE ONLY way of preventing sexually transmitted disease.

Extra strong condoms should always be used when having casual sex, they should be bought at home, before travelling, as in many countries local condoms can be destroyed by heat and are often of a poorer quality.

Couples who do not have any sexually transmitted diseases and no other sexual partners can not contract sexually transmitted diseases while on holiday.

If you have any unusual rash, discharge or soreness on return from your time abroad you should stop having sex and see your Doctor or local GUM clinic Nurse immediately.

Protection against AIDS, hepatitis B and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Today AIDS and hepatitis B, along with the “classics” gonorrhoea and syphilis, are the most dangerous sexually transmitted diseases.

The only sexually transmitted disease that is preventable by vaccination is Hepatitis B – see your Doctor or Nurse 3-6 months before you intend to travel for advice.

80% of AIDS cases reported in the UK in 1993 were contracted while abroad.

AIDS is an as yet incurable disease triggered by the HIV virus.

General weakness and, later, complete collapse of the body’s immune system follow infection.

AIDS is spread primarily through unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person.

The disease usually does not break out until many years after the initial infection.

It is impossible to tell by looking at a person whether they are carrying the virus.

People with HIV can pass it on to others even if they do not feel ill themselves, and they might not even be aware that they have the virus.

The only way of telling whether someone is HIV positive is by means of a blood test. The test is only reliable if carried out three months or more after infection, as it does not indicate the presence of the virus itself, but the body’s reaction to it (antibodies).

The main way in which AIDS is spread is via unprotected sexual intercourse. Infection can occur during a single sexual encounter with an infected partner.

A risk of HIV infection exists from all forms of unprotected sexual contact in which infected semen; blood or vaginal secretions can come into contact with the partner’s mucous membranes.

However, you cannot catch HIV from kissing, stroking, or massage.

The only way of protecting yourself from infection with HIV, hepatitis B and other sexually transmitted diseases is by always using a suitable condom – and using it correctly – during sexual intercourse.

If you don’t want to rule out a sexual adventure while on holiday, make sure that you take enough condoms away with you. The condoms available at your holiday destination, if any, may be of bad quality and therefore unsafe.

You should also bear in mind that the percentage of HIV positive men and women in the population can be very high indeed, particularly in tourist centres in Africa, Asia and America.

In some of these areas as many as three quarters of both male and female prostitutes are already infected with HIV.

AIDS and hepatitis B can also be spread through the use of shared or dirty needles and syringes. If you need regular injections for health reasons, make sure you take an adequate supply of sterile syringes on holiday with you.

HIV cannot be passed on by normal everyday contact with infected persons, so there is no need to worry about using cutlery, bed linen, beds, bathrooms and WCs, swimming pools etc. during your holiday.

Here are never revealed secrets for success. Many people think all they need to make money is to be smart, wrong. While the majority of wealthy people are smart, a combination of other factors comes into play. If you take several thousand money-oriented men, one unswervingly pursues wealth! Out of these unwavering pursuers, only a single one becomes wealthy! You cannot accumulate wealth without ingenuity and dynamic willpower. If a thousand people in a variety of conditions and circumstances would pray intensely and make the ultimate pursuit to amass wealth and try to become millionaires, most of them would be unable to make it in one lifetime. Just look around and tell me. How many people whom you know are wealthy?

For the majority of people it would be necessary to go through several lifetimes to get into the correct surroundings that would entitle them to acquire good individual karma, to become wealthy millionaires. Do not let this discourage you in any way, as you could be closer to your goal than you know. You should be relentless in acquiring your goals as long as you keep a balanced life. If this does not motivate you to double or triple your efforts, you may be in for a sad awakening some day.

Let’s put this into a different perspective. Do you want to become a millionaire? Are you willing to pay the price? Visualization and willpower alone are not enough to make or give you the rank and position of becoming a millionaire. But, unshrinking, fearless faith along with dynamic willpower, and positive thoughts coupled with visualization so intense, will propel your dynamic willpower toward realizing your goals. Within the bounds of reason you can make it possible. Do you think just by prayers and faith you can change your bad habits, your past and present karma and become affluent. Your current karmic conditions make it absolutely impossible.

Opulence necessitates advantage, and requires a circumstanced environment. If you are not in an auspicious encouraging environment there can be a thousand mentally superior minds, but if they are not in that karmic induced surroundings they will have to labor hard for many incarnations to come before the rule of economic development that Allow them the status of a millionaire. Why pray foolishly or illogically for possessions that you could not have in your period of development at that time.

Thinking prayers will be answered, belief turns to doubt, because of false reasoning. In a state of uncertainty, to believe in and unceasingly praying is not enough. All karmic goals have to be earned.

First you need to build a relationship with God, then once relationship is established; your prayers will be answered. A praying beggar will be given what he deserves, a paupers trifle. Never beg when you pray as beggary reduces your prayers to that of a poverty stricken vagrant. When you pray, demand as a divine child talking to a parent asking for what is rightfully yours as a divine son. Do this with conviction and see what happens then when you pray correctly. You can pray to God in the aspect of a forgiving mother instead of a father aspect who expects you to follow his laws. A mother aspect of God will always forgive her erring son.

Change your standing from a mislead worldly soul living of the crumbs of your karma, to a divine being who can control his destiny as a child of God.

As I mentioned above ingenuity and dynamic willpower are very important factors. To be able to apply ingenuity you will need to be smart, but to apply dynamic will power you will need emotional and spiritual intelligence. Once you have put together these three factors: intellectual, emotional and spiritual intelligence, you will be ready to apply dynamic will power, which I call “the hyper will power” because once you learn how to use this power, it will work tirelessly toward the achievement of your goals. What could have taken you lifetimes to achieve could have turned into a short-cut to the achievement of your goals in this lifetime. You have the power to manipulate your karmic conditions to acquire good individual karma in a lifetime. This could be the lifetime for good karmic achievements.

There are strategies and methods in many fields that have been scientifically proven to work, but every now and then, strategies and methods require fine tuning, revision and improvement. Likewise, intellectual, emotional and spiritual intelligence require fine tuning through revision of habits and necessary lifestyle improvements. For faster results there is a systematic process called “meditation.” It has been scientifically proven that meditation causes profound changes in the psyche. Every intellectually, emotionally and spiritually balanced individual practices some form of deep concentration, meditation, prayer and contemplation.

Because of weak tendencies from past incarnations some people’s efforts in this life are weak. Consequently, they are unable to obtain success. Their successes because of their weak willpower are usually meager or negligible at most. But if tendencies from the past were strong but they suffer from inertia or being inactive, it may require them to struggle for awhile but they usually come into a “run of good luck,” or a winning investment, or a lucky inheritance.

The seeds of being prosperous become unbalanced by selfishness. Wealthy people who become selfish while failing to hear the agonies and cries of other people can lose their prosperity and wealth through bad investments and will become impoverished or poor in their next incarnation. The tendencies of success that are sleeping in your subconscious mind must be awakened by repetitive efforts of will power. If you are a failure, stop wasting time or your willpower will become paralyzed.

What is the secret law to activate universal forces to come to your aid and lead you to the place of prosperity that is rightfully yours? Stop seeking prosperity for yourself alone and include others in your own prosperity. This will prevent you from becoming poor. That means not just including your family and yourself but a larger group of people that surround you. This is serious matter; do not take it lightly because using this secret universal law by becoming unselfish and by distributing the prosperity to everyone equally with no exceptions will activate the universal law of karma to come to your aid.

You must determine your goals in life and don’t get lost and wander along aimlessly in this jungle of existence trying to acquire useless desires instead of satisfying your real needs. Try to remember this because you can not find happiness with an insatiable desire of acquiring money, even though money is supposed to bring happiness. The law of cause and effect governs what is measured out in the degree of prosperity one has been dealt with in life. It is the nature of your past actions which determines your success. The root causes of failure must be smashed to smithereens and substituted with new causes of prosperity.
